Two Hawaiian men pleaded guilty Wednesday to first degree animal-cruelty charges after they allegedly stole an 8-month-old puppy, took it home and butchered it, the Honolulu Advertiser reported. Jack Pendleton was at T.G.I. Friday’s in Clifton Park on Sunday when he spotted something gray mixed in with his vegetables and realized it was a snake head the size of his thumb, with part of the spine still attached. Pendleton says he snapped a photo with his cell phone camera and called the waiter over. The manager said he’d never seen anything like it…Source

A man was charged Tuesday with smuggling songbirds into the United States by hiding more than a dozen of them in an elaborate, custom-tailored pair of leggings during a flight from Vietnam to Los Angeles. Sony Dong, 46, was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport in March after an inspector spotted bird feathers and droppings on his socks and tail feathers peeking out from under his pants, prosecutors said…Source

Australia is known around the world for its large and deadly creepy-crawlies, but even locals have been shocked by the size of the giant venomous spiders that have invaded an Outback town in Queensland. Scores of eastern tarantulas, which are known as “bird-eating spiders” and can grow larger than the palm of a man’s hand, have begun crawling out from gardens and venturing into public spaces in Bowen, a coastal town about 700 miles northwest of Brisbane…Source

A British letter carrier got an unpleasant surprise when a venomous snake lurking in a post box bit him on the hand. Alan Wakley told the Burnham & Highbridge Weekly News he is sure the snake, small and olive-green in color, was an adder. But he said his hand did not become swollen so the snake may not have actually injected him with venom, although he could see the mark of its fangs…Source

The pilot of a small airplane was able to walk away after its crash landing was cushioned by a bunch of portable toilets near Tacoma, Wash. A man in a cowboy hat who rode a horse through a Denver suburb has been cited for riding an animal under the influence. Police said Brian Drone was given a $25 traffic violation ticket in a strip mall parking lot Friday. Drone told KUSA-TV that he was out for a “joyride” in Arvada with his horse, Cricket…Source
